Accountant / Bookkeeper

We are growing our Martin Place team and looking for experienced finance professionals. Our current opening is for an Accountant / Bookkeeper in a full-time, office-based position.
You will support day-to-day bookkeeping, taxation compliance, financial reporting and audit preparation for our clients, including ASX-listed companies. Working directly with our founding partner, you will contribute across outsourced CFO, company secretarial, listed-entity accounting and bookkeeping engagements.
The work
Key responsibilities
This role spans the accounting work currently undertaken by our CFO, with hands-on guidance as you take ownership across these responsibilities.
- Maintain general ledgers and complete bank, credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations using Xero
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices and payments
- Prepare journals to maintain assets and liabilities, including accruals, prepayments, property, plant and equipment, lease liabilities and employee leave obligations
- Assist with monthly management accounts and cash-flow reporting
- Prepare or support quarterly, half-yearly and annual financial reports
- Assist with statutory reporting for our ASX-listed clients
- Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for external audits
- Liaise professionally with auditors, tax advisers and other external stakeholders
- Support BAS, GST, PAYG, payroll tax and other applicable ATO lodgements
- Assist with year-end accounts and income tax preparation
- Work within established financial controls and suggest practical improvements
- Maintain financial records and audit trails that support efficient reporting and audit completion
- Complete and maintain Know Your Customer and client due-diligence documentation
- Monitor deadlines and help ensure reporting and compliance obligations are completed accurately and on time
- Maintain the confidentiality of all client information encountered in your work
Your experience
About you
You will ideally bring the following experience and capabilities.
- Approximately 2–5 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience in Australia
- Experience within a corporate accounting, outsourced finance or professional services firm
- Previous exposure to ASX-listed companies or listed-company reporting requirements
- Experience preparing or supporting quarterly, half-yearly and annual financial reports
- Experience working directly with external auditors of listed companies
- Sound knowledge of Australian taxation and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with Australian Accounting Standards, ATO requirements and corporate compliance obligations
- Practical experience with KYC, client onboarding and due-diligence procedures
- Strong reconciliation, bookkeeping and financial-record management skills
- Proficiency with Xero, CAS360, the ASIC Online Portal and the ATO Tax Agent Portal
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time management
- Clear written and verbal communication skills

Formal study
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred
- CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants ANZ studies, or an intention to commence them, will be highly regarded
- Relevant bookkeeping qualifications may also be considered when supported by strong professional experience
